Fish Kofta (Fish Balls in Gravy) – Add a twist

This dish was cooked by my grand mother. My mom just started making it and I am a big fan of this dish already. If you are sick of eating those ready made chicken koftas (meatballs) or the not-so special beef kofta, this is a must-try. Your guests will keep guessing what the koftas are made of!

For Fish Balls

  • Fish Fillets 1 Kg
  • 1/2 tbsp Ginger/Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • Salt
  • Red Chillies
  • Black Pepper
  • Bread slices two (soaked in water)

Steam fish fillet in a steamer. When cooked, mash the fish meat and mix in together with all the above ingredients. Roll them well into round balls. Fry these balls in a pan till golden brown.  You can freeze them after frying.

For Gravy

Brown three onions. Add ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp and 1/4 kg yogurt. Put this mixture in a blender till smooth.

Place some oil in a pan and add the onion paste to it. Add salt, red chillies, 1/4 tsp haldee (turmeric powder), 1 tsp dhaniya powder (dried coriander powder).   Fry till the oil separates.

Place the fish balls in the gravy and add 3 cups of water. Let it simmer on low heat. Taste the gravy and check for salt and chillies, add some more if you like. Cook till  the gravy thickens a bit (or as you like it!).

Yummy Fish Koftas ready.

P.S. I will get some pictures up on this soon.

Let me know how this experiment went!
