The chants grow louder as the two men wrestle arm to arm, the one must simply put the other out of the line. Yes, the players need to be good at holding their breath for at least 30 seconds, but no one said you need to hold your breath for watching kabaddi.

The air around the arena has a whiff of over fried oil, and the aroma of pakoras, papar, and kadak chai. Channa chaat, dahee baray and gol gappay, loaded with chaat masala, are ready to be devoured. The vendor adds more ice to the large pot of lassi, but all the food will have to wait. This is the scene from the Kabaddi ground of a hyperlocal match!

Over the years, the sport has evolved from a local sport played outdoors to a modern setting played on mats indoors and is part of the Asian Games as well as the South Asian Games. Efforts are underway to take Kabaddi to the Olympics. The hub of Kabaddi is in Punjab, while it’s  gaining popularity in Sindh and KPK.  Not only this, but the sport is also played globally in more than 60 countries. Some of the best international Kabaddi players like Nasir Ali, Waseem Sajjad and Wajid Ali are from Pakistan and have been part of other leagues as well.

The good news is that so much is going to change in terms of Kabaddi in Pakistan before the year ends. This year, Pakistan is to play its first Kabaddi League, and all of it has a role to play towards the professional establishment of the game. Super Kabbadi League 2017 is a game changer, it is an initiative for the modern development of Kabaddi, in bringing the game to metropolitan cities of Pakistan.

Super Kabaddi League has its teams and players coming from all over the country. The cities that they come from, have a strong history and rich food culture. Which is why Super Kabaddi League is our chance to highlight the food culture of these cities, and thus, bring both Kabbadi and food together.

The tree no matter how high it goes has sprung from its roots. Staying close to the roots of culture is what builds a true character. On the contrary, adapting towards modernization is necessary for the growth of the society. Which is exactly what Super Kabaddi League is about, in terms of both the game and the food culture these cities have.

We are happy to be a part of Super Kabbadi League, join us to make SKL  happening.
