We Pakhtoons are known for our hospitality and the different ways in which we show it. Kehwa or green tea is something we always serve our guests with. It is a tradition to serve the kehwa after dinner. It is also enjoyed during tea time as an alternative to regular tea. The best kehwa can be found in the streets of the Qissa Khwani Bazaar in Peshawar.  It is a must try for anyone that wishes to go there. Incidentally, the oldest of tea shops is also located in the same bazaar.

I am using Peshawari green tea leaves for this recipe. These are usually easily available in all markets but its best to use the ones purchased from Peshawar for an authentic taste.

  • Water- As Required
  • Cardamom- 4-5
  • Peshawari Green Tea Leaves- As Required
  • Sugar- As per taste

  • In a saucepan, add water and cardamom
  • Once boiled, add the tea leaves
  • Let it come to another boil
  • Serve with crushed nuts
  • Another method is to use a thermos
  • Add hot water and cardamom in the thermos
  • Add the tea leaves
  • Remove the lid after 15 minutes and the Kehwa is ready
