There is no desi snack that’s truly complete without a chutney. But the same old chutney can be boring, so to mix things up, here are our favorite renditions of the chutney for you to try out:

Tomato Chutney

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes – 4
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Garlic Cloves – 2 to 3 (or 1 teaspoon of garlic powder)
  • Vinegar – 3 to 4 tablespoons
  • Red Chili Powder (or Chili Flakes) – ½ teaspoon

Preparation

  1. Grill tomatoes over a stove and then peel the skin off
  2. Blend all ingredients together

Green Chutney

Ingredients

  • Coriander – half bunch
  • Mint – half bunch
  • Green Chilies – 3 to 4
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Almonds – 8 to 10
  • Walnuts – ¼  cup
  • Vinegar or Lemon Juice – 3 to 4 tablespoons
  • Water – ½ cup

Preparation

Blend all ingredients together

Tamarind and Date Chutney

Ingredients

  • Tamarind (Imli) – ½ cup
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Red Chili Flakes – 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic Powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Dates (seeded) – 5 to 6

Preparation

  • Soak tamarind in 1½ cups of water
  • Mix all the spices in with the tamarind water then blend with dates
