“Meat is a rarity at our place”- says Zubaida our chefling on the fringe. She mentions how the high prices of meat make it difficult for her family to afford it for meals. On the few occasions when the men in the house do exceptionally well at work, this luxury is bought to the house and Zubaida uses her cooking skills to make the simple dish of  mutton gravy which is enjoyed with  tandoor ki roti at her home.


  • Mutton-1 kg
  • Onions- 2
  • Tomato-3
  • Ginger- ½ tsp (chooped)
  • Garlic- ½ tsp (chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Red Chilli Powder- 1tsp
  • Green Chillies- 2-3
  • Coriander- a bunch
  • Water
  • oil


  • Half boil the meat
  • In a pan, heat oil and add the ginger and garlic
  • When the ginger and garlic start crackling add the onions and fry them till they are brown.
  • Now add the tomatoes and all the spices
  • With the spoon mash the tomatoes and the onion together
  • Now add the meat and stir a few times
  • Add water and cover the pot and let the gravy simmer for a while
  • Dish it out and garnish with green chilies and coriander
