We Sindhis have a special relationship with rice and the dishes made using rice. All over Pakistan the Sindhi biryani is considered to be the best version of biryani in the country. But did you know that our pulao is also famous for its unique taste? Sindhi pulao is a very popular dish from the Sindhi cuisine. My in laws have it for dinner almost every other day. It is super yummy and you will definitely notice a unique taste while devouring it.


  • Basmati rice:2 glasses
  • Chicken: 1/2 kg
  • Onion: 2
  • Garlic ginger paste:1tbsp
  • Tomatoes:4
  • Yougart: Half cup
  • Green chilllies: 5 to 6
  • Fresh coriander: half bunch
  • Potatoes: 2 cut into medium pieces
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder:2 tbsp
  • Haldi:1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder: 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder: 1 tbsp
  • Zeera: 1 tbsp
  • Black zeera: 1 tbsp
  • Oil: 1 1/2 half cup


  • Heat oil in a pot fry the onions till golden brown
  • Add the garlic ginger paste and chicken
  • Fry the chicken till golden brown
  • Add tomatoes, potatoes and whole spices and cook till tomatoes soften
  • Add the yogurt with 3 cups of water
  • Cover the pot and let simmer on low heat for 15 minutes till the potatoes are tender
  • When the water has dried up, add 4 more cups of water with rice and let simmer till half of the liquid has dried up.
  • Cover the Pot and let cook on low heat
  • When the rice are cooked through dish out and garnish with green chilies and coriander.
