Are you the kind of person who just can’t seem to choose between getting a Popsicle or an ice cream? Decisions, decisions! How about if I tell you, you can have both at once in a sublime frozen dessert that tastes like a sunny slice of summer in the middle of winter. Intrigued? So was I, when I happily stumbled upon a divine sounding dessert that called for “orange sherbet” as one of the ingredients. Now I know what you’re thinking…isn’t sherbet supposed to be a drink? Maybe in this part of the world it is, but there’s this beautiful alternate universe in which a sherbet is a sublime amalgamation of a sorbet and an ice cream, combining the satisfying crunch of a Popsicle with a hint of creaminess that cuts through the icy tang and a recipe so simple, you’ll be wondering what else there is to it! So here it is, zesty orange sherbet you guys!

Ingredients:

  • 3  cups freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 3 teaspoons orange zest
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla essence
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 to 1 cup powdered sugar (depending on how sweet or sour your oranges are, start with half a cup and keep adding in increments if need be)
  • 1 cup heavy cream

    Instructions:

    • Blend everything together and freeze for at least 4 hours or over night.
    • Since its a cross between a sorbet and an ice cream, its supposed to have crunch to it, which means you don't need to keep taking it out of the freezer and beating the ice crystals into oblivion every few hours.
    • Told you it was simple! Savor it as is or experiment with creating other tangy desserts using sherbet such as a layered dessert made with crushed candi biscuits or digestives, fruit cocktail, softened orange sherbet and whipped cream.
