The love for cricket is very common among us Pakistanis. We Pakistanis bleed cricket. Like any other cricketing extravaganza, the launch of the  Pakistan Super League (PSL) has created a lot of buzz and excitement throughout the country.

This February, five teams will battle it out for the biggest domestic T20 championship in the history of Pakistan. After a long time, it feels so great to be associated with Pakistan cricket. You can be a supporter of Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmis or Quetta Gladiatiors, at the end of the day it is Cricket and the spirit of sportsmanship  that wins.

In Pakistan, no festivity or celebration is complete without good food. There cannot be a better time to enjoy food and quality time with friends and family than a thrilling and spell binding cricket match.

With the start of PSL, Chefling Tales has come up with a special feature to help you prepare a special menu for the Cricket and food lovers in your habitat. Homemade snacks go really well with a cricket match, by the way.

Enjoy the spectacular, first ever, Pakistan Super League matches with scrumptious food and drinks and support the  Cricket in Pakistan in true foodie fashion. I have compiled a list of delicious and super easy-to-make snacks which you can make to enjoy with the game. Here’s to a great Cricketing season.

Burritos

A Burrito is a complete and filling meal. It is prepared with a combination of kidney beans, boiled rice and crunchy fresh vegetable salsa wrapped in tortillas.

The can be served hot and cold, either way they are rich and satisfying. You can also use cooked meat, cut in small chunks, in place of kidney beans. The salad is cut into small chunks as well.

Fish Skewers with Chili Garlic Glaze

A light and healthy appetizer for dinner or a tempting snack for the tea time – Fish skewers threaded with seasonal vegetables and tossed in chili garlic glaze can be made in less than half an hour. Fish can also be substituted with chicken or cottage cheese.

Cauliflower Crust Pizza

Cauliflower crust pizza is a perfect disguise. It looks and tastes somewhat like a classic pizza dough with amazing texture. A delicious twist to all-time favourite tea time snack for everyone at home.

The pizza crust is made out of freshly grated cauliflower alone. The crust is firm to hold like a regular slice of pizza with toppings of your choice.

Orange Cake

We can all grab an orange or two to munch on while watching a cricket match. But, we  think that the PSL  season would be incomplete without a steaming cup of tea/coffee complimented with a super moist pound cake made with the seasonal fruit.

Yes, orange cake on its own or topped with a simple zesty glaze results in an amazing snack that will leave you hooked.

Apple Beetroot Juice

We all need an energy boost towards the middle of a match. This juice is one of the most energetic drinks you can have in winters. The produce used in the juice are source of numerous vitamins and minerals. The sweetness from apples and carrots perfectly balances the earthiness of beets. Black salt can be added to enhance the  flavor of the apple and beetroot juice. A full glass of this miracle drink will boost your energy along with the game.

I am also looking forward to the times when cafes and restaurants will be creating sixer menus, renaming their platters and cuisines after the PSL teams and offering spinning discounts to gear up crazy fans as the action on the pitch starts.

I am trained to be an IT professional. I served National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) for six years after graduating from the same university. As long as I can remember, cooking good food has been my passion and it makes me happy. My cooking lessons were a bit unusual though. Back in the day when digital did not mean much, my father would record cooking shows (knorr ka kitchen, kaukab khuwaja and Zee Khana Khazana – Chef Sanjeev Kapoor) for me to watch endless times later on, before trying the recipes out. I would make brownies and cold cake almost every day while my mother was asleep. This was my way of surprising her every evening. My mother cooks amazing food too and I have tried many of the recipes written in her recipe book. I draw inspiration from a number of chefs from televised cooking shows such as Late Chef Farah, Chef Rahat, Chef Mehboob, BBC Food, Masala TV, Chef Shai, Chef Sharmeen, Master Chef Australia and my ultimate favorite Chef Shireen Anwer. I would not be as good a cook I am now without passive guidance from each one of these.
