My son, Baby Z, attends school at Ecole Des Lumieres , which is exceptionally conscious about healthy food being sent in students’ lunchboxes. I remember the day I lovingly made french fries and sent them with my baby. When I picked him in the evening, I found a big postid on his lunchbox listing the guidelines for healthy lunches that are allowed. Apparently french fries are not healthy.
And here I was thinking I did the best thing a mother could by giving Z the thing we would have loved to see in our lunch boxes when we were his age. Remember when your mom gave you french fries for lunch? It was like Eid!
This is actually a huge sigh of relief for me, as Baby Z is in school for most of the day. I am conscious about his sweet intake, and keep a check on the juice, chocolate and biscuits he eats.
The note sent by his school was a great reminder, and made me put in extra effort to give my boy a healthy lunchbox. Also, over the last year, Baby Z has grown very fond of healthy snacks like black olives, figs, oosh ‘raisins’, dates as snacks, thanks to his school. He also enjoys fruits like bananas, apples, oranges (thanks to his grandfather).
The question of what to give Baby Z every morning is a huge issue for me. I have to make three lunchboxes every day (2 snacks and one lunch). The super moms at his school do an amazing job in what they send with their kids; healthy food with no juice boxes and no package chips!
If you’re a mom and reading this, I’m sure you also wonder what to send with your child every morning.
Here are some winning ideas from – and a nod of appreciation for – the moms at Ecole, for their consistent efforts. These are no Pinterest-inspired lunchboxes, but the real doable deal!
Fruits and Cheese: Power-packed snacks
There is nothing healthier for a kid than munching on a piece of fruit, instead of gobbling up candy to satisfy those little sweet teeth.

By adding a bit of fruit for snack time, you can make sure your kid is eating healthy and staying away from monster cavities You can add a bit of cheese and some yogurt as well. This ensures your kid is taking an appropriate amount of dairy every day.

These lunchboxes by some awesome moms at Ecole show how you can add a bit of fruit in your kid’s diet.

Experiment with Pasta and Greens
Nothing compares to the challenge of making a toddler eat their greens. They go to any length to avoid eating vegetables. Fortunately, most kids love to eat pasta, and you can trick them into eating their greens if you conceal them in the yumminess of pasta. This makes a healthy lunch option.
Sandwiches and French Toast
Kids love to eat bread! For some it’s their staple diet. They love putting on some chocolate spread or jam. But that isn’t healthy now is it?

For a lunchbox, you can add some french toast in the mix, and even come up with different types of sandwiches that can include bologna, meat, cheese and vegetables – the options are numerous. Add something new each day and they will never get bored.

Other options
You can add a variety of small things in that lunchbox that will put a smile to your child’s face and cement your status as Super Mommy.

Dry fruit, cane sugar, chickpeas, cupcakes, boiled eggs; the list doesn’t end there.
Let the lunchbox be your empty canvas, do wonders with it.

Hats off to the moms at Ecole for making the perfect lunchboxes for their kids, every single day!
