Canadian Chicken Qorma- A quick Chicken Recipe

Though similar to a Pakistani Chicken Qorma, we call this dish Canadian chicken qorma because my Phuphu, who has been living in Canada for about 30 years, taught this to my mom. Being a working women, my phupoo came up with these easy to cook recipes. It was an instant hit in our family. Plus, you won’t have to worry much about taste consistency every time you make it. It’s a very quick chicken recipe and has a distinct taste due to use of  cardamom

Ingredients

  • 1 Kg chicken meat
  • 3 Medium sized Onions
  • 3 medium sized Tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp Garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp Yogurt
  • ½ tsp Haldee (Turmeric Powder)
  • 1 tsp  Ajwain (Carom Seeds)
  • 1 tsp Safaid Zeerah (White Cumin Seeds)
  • 6 Alaichee (Cardamom)
  • Salt
  • Red Chillies

Put about 2 tbsp oil in a pan and golden brown onions.  Take out the onions and put them in a blender.

In the same oil, fry the chicken with garlic and ginger paste till cooked. It should turn white and have little color to it. Don’t over cook it as it will get time to cook further with gravy.

Add  tomatoes and all the above dry ingredients with half glass of water in the blender. Blend it into a paste.

Put the blended paste in the cooked chicken and cook it till oil comes out.

Put water in the chicken – as much as the gravy you want to keep- 2 glasses will be enough- and let it boil for 10-15 minutes approximately until the flavors combine.

Top it with coriander leaves.

Try and let me know , if it tastes differently or the same qorma for you?
