Spaghetti with Meatballs in Red Sauce (The quick way)

Ever thought about making meatballs with spaghetti? I always looked at the recipe but found it a daunting task to make meatballs from scratch. When we moved to Bangkok, we brought a lot of frozen food with us. This included Kebabs and Chicken Koftas (chicken meatballs) of local Pakistani Brands like K&Ns.

When I got bored of cooking and eating Koftas -the desi style,  I experimented and made spaghetti with meatballs in red sauce. Its a very quick and a basic recipe. Is it healthy? not so much;)

You will need

  • 1/2 Pack of Spaghetti
  • 3-4  big  tomatoes (Diced finely) or 6-7 small tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Tomatoe Puree
  • 4-5 Chicken Meatballs (frozen)
  • 1/2 medium onion sliced in small cubes and thinly.
  • Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 3 Garlic Cloves (Crushed and diced finely)
Lets start coking!
  • Fry the frozen meatballs in oil till they turn golden brown. Set aside.
  • In a pan pour 1/2 tbsp oil and warm it. Put crushed garlic and let it fry till the color changes to light brown. Now put the finely diced tomatoes and let it cook on slow heat. Also, add the tomato puree at this point and mix it well. You can also blend the tomatoes at this point and cook it further for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Now add diced onions into the purée. Also add the fried meat balls. Cook it for 5 minutes on low heat. Check for salt (as some salt from meat balls will also seep into the tomatoes). Add more if you like. Also add 1/2 tsp black pepper.
  • I usually cook for 5 more minutes so the flavor of meat combines with the red sauce.  Once its mixed well- add 1/2 tsp oregano. Your sauce is ready!
  • On a separate stove, place a pot for cooking Spaghetti. Add 1 tbsp oil in water and leave it to boil. Once the water starts boiling add spaghetti. Cook the spaghetti till soft. Now drain the water completely. Put the the spaghetti in the serving  bowl and season it with salt, black pepper and oregano.
  • Now pour the red sauce and the meat ball on top of the spaghetti. Your dish is ready! Want to add some calories? Add shredded cheese on top of the dish and bake it or top grill microwave it till the cheese melts away!
  • Tip: In case you are worried about pasta sticking together- don’t be. Just run cold water through the pasta and they will be fine!
